L’ethnographie de la marche étudie la marche à la fois comme technique du corps et comme méthode d’enquête. Longtemps marginale en anthropologie, elle trouve ses racines dans les travaux de Marcel Mauss sur les techniques du corps, qui montrent que marcher est un apprentissage social révélateur des rapports au milieu et aux autres. Inspirée de la phénoménologie, cette approche s'intéresse au mouvement, aux trajectoires, pratiques et perceptions. Depuis le début du XXIᵉ siècle, elle s’est diffusée dans plusieurs disciplines, notamment grâce aux entretiens mobiles. En marchant avec leurs interlocuteurs, les chercheurs accèdent à des savoirs incorporés et à des relations entre corps, environnement et mémoire. L’ethnographie de la marche souligne ainsi que les humains habitent et comprennent le monde en mouvement.
