Registre québécois des formations en soins palliatifs et fin de vie : une étude descriptive transversale

Dans le but d’obtenir un portrait de l’offre de formation en soins palliatifs et de fin de vie (SPFV) au Québec, le ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) a mandaté la création d’un registre recensant les formations académiques et continues. Une étude descriptive transversale a été menée de janvier à mai 2022 à l’aide de questionnaires validés et d’entretiens. Parmi les 291 programmes d’études repérés, 54 ont fourni des informations détaillées, ce qui nous a permis de recenser 121 cours, dont 45 se concentrant particulièrement sur les SPFV. Trois programmes imposent un stage en SPFV, tandis que 52 en offrent de manière optionnelle. Du côté de la formation continue, 88 organisations ont répondu, révélant 148 activités, principalement en ligne, courtes, gratuites ou peu coûteuses, ciblant surtout les infirmiers, les médecins et les préposés aux bénéficiaires (ou aides-soignants). Malgré les recommandations d’adopter une approche interdisciplinaire, les formations visent un nombre restreint de professions. Les thématiques les plus abordées sont la collaboration centrée sur la personne, la gestion des symptômes et la communication, tandis que les soins palliatifs pédiatriques et la spiritualité sont peu présents. Les stratégies pédagogiques sont variées, et l’apprentissage en ligne est jugé efficace. Toutefois, les stages restent majoritairement optionnels et les évaluations reposent surtout sur l’autoévaluation, avec peu de données sur l’effet à long terme. Le registre national, lancé au printemps 2024, facilite l’accès aux formations. Les recommandations incluent l’intégration de formations obligatoires, le développement d’un programme de base, la reconnaissance des compétences avancées et l’accessibilité des formations au public.
