Abstract

The evolution of prehistoric archaeology in the North American context during the 20th century and its relationships with anthropology differs from the European practice. The presence of indigenous groups has given this discipline, in part, an orientation of its own. During the last century, the archaeological thought has evolved from a historical relativism position to a processual and post-processual archaeology.
