Medical anthropology is a subfield of sociocultural anthropology that focuses on the plurality of medical systems as well as the study of economic, political and sociocultural factors that impact the health of individuals and populations. It studies the social relationships, lived experiences and practices involved in the management and treatment of illnesses as they are related to cultural norms and social institutions. It takes into account both the biological and the social aspects.
