At the beginning of cultural and social anthropology, the comparative approach has been practised in a multiplicity of totalizing perspectives. A reflection on the comparing subjects, on the comparing concepts, and on the discursive processes configuring the anthropological object constructed in and by the comparison is added to the necessity of a differential comparison. This raises the question of the translatability of cultures through forms of discourse.
