Contemporary studies on childhood establish that the vision of the early years that prevails today and is enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is historically and culturally specific. Anthropology must remain critical of hegemonic discourses on childhood and globalized practices that intervene in “other” childhoods, while at the same time continuing to advocate for girls and boys who experience violations of their rights.
