Individualism

Individualism is inseparable from modernity where the individual occupies a central place. Without being opposed to the principle of holism (because the individual cannot exist without society), individualism is especially characteristic of Western societies. With globalization, however, it tends to further impose itself in other civilizations. It is thus at odds with cultural diversity while advocating, paradoxically, a desire for emancipation.
