This article examines the different conceptions around death, its symbolism but also its rites while considering, through the anthropological point of view, the human beings as the only living beings who can think about death and anticipate it even when death does not threaten them. This awareness induces a back and forth between resignation in the face of the inescapable and an aspiration to an eternal life after death.
