Despite being a characteristic of cultural and social anthropology, the notion of stage goes beyond the entertainment world. Using a historical and comparative approach, it can be noticed that humans adopt behaviours specific to the stage in their everyday lives. Beyond a simple metaphor, as it was once used by classical authors, the stage is also a full field of research in which the anthropologist would be the playwright.
