Subalternity

Defined as a relation of subordination, the notion of “subaltern” first referred to subaltern studies before being included in postcolonial theories in the 1990s. Today, subalternity results from two phenomena: colonization and globalization whose effects cause the oppression of subaltern groups by limiting their economic and social freedom. For these groups, freedom of speech is an essential weapon in order to denounce their servitudes.
