This entry analyzes the different conceptualizations and definitions of tourism across practices and history. Throughout history, mobility— along with a desire for discovery, exploration, or rest—consisted of a social reality that was more or less common to all societies. It has shaped the idea of the Homo Touristicus on a perpetual quest for a lost paradise.
