An Afro-American religion born from the trafficking and the enslavement of Africans, Haitian voodoo maintained tight relations with the political and religious fields of Haitian history. The liturgy was essentially born from African rites of possession. All social strata are now represented in voodoo and its practice is regionally diverse. Voodoo also includes holistic healing rituals associating medicine and religion, a social and natural environment.
