Abstract

The migratory process refers to the dynamism and particularities of the sequence of situations encountered by a person or group. Phenomena and experiences intertwine or overlap from the moment people begin the process of leaving their place of origin, through to the moment of settlement and eventual inclusion in the host society. Three stages are associated (premigratory, migratory and post-migratory), but there is no linearity or fixed duration of time, due to the dynamism of the situations. This entry follows on from "Migration" (2017) and takes this notion a step further, addressing what constitutes the migration experience in the variability of experiences, but also what brings them together.
