A disaster is a sudden, large-scale event with irreversible negative consequences. The notion of disaster, which is related to that of collapse or disaster, can be defined as a syndrome, bringing together events that are largely heterogeneous (wars, epidemics, droughts, major fires, floods, loss of biodiversity, sinking of works of art, etc.).
