Trance implies a change in the subject's state of consciousness. Trance is a term that has been used by anthropologists to refer to very different phenomena. They have also analyzed them from different points of view. Some authors have approached trance as a "crisis" or as a "prepossession". Another line of research explores the sociological implications of trance, while others see it as a performance. This entry explores the different dimensions of trance in different eras and schools of thought.
