Abstract

For anthropology, conversion is both an embarrassing and a classic notion. Since the 1970s, it has been much researched, first from a Marxist and then from a structural-functionalist perspective. Conversion simultaneously combines transformation and transition, therefore changes (the abandonment of practices, the development of new imaginaries) and continuities perceptible at different levels.
