Résumé

Développer son vocabulaire pour comprendre oralement et à l’écrit en langue première (L1) et en langue seconde (L2) constitue un défi de taille tant pour les adultes que pour les jeunes apprenants. L’apprentissage des mots dépend aussi de la mémoire de travail (MT) qui a une place centrale dans la cognition humaine et l’apprentissage d’une langue ; plusieurs études ont établi son rôle important dans l’apprentissage d’une L1 (Gathercole et Baddeley, 1989, 1990) et, encore plus, d’une L2 (Baddeley et al., 1998 ; Gathercole et al., 1999 ; Service et Kohonen, 1995). En dépit des études déjà menées concernant le rôle de la MT dans l’acquisition incidente du vocabulaire en L2 durant la compréhension orale, le besoin d’apporter des précisions sur ce rôle surtout chez les enfants reste encore à explorer. L’objectif de cet article est de présenter une synthèse des écrits sur le rôle de la MT dans l’acquisition incidente du vocabulaire en L2 durant la compréhension orale chez les enfants pour souligner ce besoin concernant les précisions nécessaires à apporter.
